Johnson, defense seal No. 4 Field Hockey’s 1-0 win at No. 21 Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team closed out a perfect weekend in New York with a 1-0 shutout on Sunday over the 21st-ranked Rochester Yellowjackets.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams battled in the first half with Salisbury holding a one-shot advantage (9-8) over Rochester at the half.
  • Addy O'Connell made five saves in the first half to keep the Yellowjackets off the board.
  • It wasn't until the 42nd minute that Salisbury broke through. McKenna Horner hit a ball hard into the circle before Olivia Twilley got a redirection and tapped it into the back of the cage for the lone goal of the contest.
  • Hannah Johnson helped preserve the Salisbury clean sheet with a defensive save on Bella Militi in the 50th minute.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury held the narrow 18-17 shot edge over Rochester.
  • Addy O'Connell played stout throughout the game with a career-high 11 saves. 
  • Hannah Johnson registered a defensive save, the fifth of her career.
  • Olivia Twilley tallied her second goal of the season.
  • McKenna Horner collected her fifth assists of the season and fourth in as many games.
ROCHESTER GAME NOTES
  • Rochester had more penalty corners than Salisbury (12-10).
  • Kara Houston made nine saves in goal for the Yellowjackets.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury returns home on Saturday, Sept. 23 against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.
  • The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at Sea Gull Stadium.
  • SU will recognize the 2003 National Championship team at halftime for its 20th anniversary.
