Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 6 Field Hockey thrashes No. 21 Catholic, 7-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team scored once in each of the first three quarters before erupting for four goals in the first six minutes of the fourth, flying by the 21st-ranked Catholic Cardinals, 7-0, on Wednesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After knocking on the door through the whole first quarter, the Sea Gulls finally broke through with just over a minute remaining in the period. Olivia Twilley spun around a Cardinal defender and flung it toward the left side of the arc, where Emma Radebaugh flicked a backhand shot into the right corner of the cage to put Salisbury in front 1-0.
  • Three minutes into the second quarter, McKenna Horner sniffed out an errant CUA pass in the arc and pushed a back-hander past the goalie to double the SU lead, 2-0, a margin that would hold through halftime.
  • The middle of the third quarter belong to Catholic, but SU was able to turn away six consecutive Cardinal shots, with Addy O'Connell making a pair of saves during the flurry.
  • Salisbury reestablished control and notched another tally with under a minute to play in the third. Kaitlyn DeModna controlled the ball in the arc and found Arden Hunteman, who went left corner to make it 3-0 SU.
  • After scoring their goals drip-by-drip in the first three quarters, the Sea Gulls busted open the floodgates in the fourth. Marli McDorman baited the goalie and found Julia Frankis to her left, who chipped it in with the backhand to put SU up 4-0 at the 12:18 mark.
  • Just a minute and a half later, McDorman got in on the party as she deflected a ripper from Alayna Gigliotti high over the keeper's pads to make it 5-0.
  • A mere 18 seconds after that, Molly Reardon came streaking up the sideline and fed Horner for her second goal of the game to make it 6-0.
  • Salisbury needed barely another minute to find the back of the cage again as Madelyn Reed sniped one into the left corner at the 9:22 mark, making it four goals in the span of two minutes, 56 seconds, and giving the Sea Gulls their final 7-0 lead.
