No. 6 Field Hockey sinks St. Mary’s (Md.), 5-0

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team recorded its second straight clean sheet with a 5-0 triumph over the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls broke through for the first time at the 7:55 mark of the first quarter. Kaitlyn DeModna took one shot that was blocked, corralled her own rebound, and pushed it to the left corner of the cage to put SU ahead 1-0.
  • Salisbury took just one shot in the second quarter but made it count, as Alayna Gigliotti found McKenna Horner inside the arc for a brilliant one-timer into the high right corner to double the Sea Gull lead, 2-0, just a minute-and-a-half into the period.
  • The Sea Gulls drew a penalty corner at the 12:30 mark of the third quarter. Mack Dinopoulos served it in to Isabel Larabee, whose shot was blocked, but Horner was there to clean up and deposited her second goal into the back of the cage to make it 3-0.
  • At the 5:01 mark of the third, DeModna cranked a high shot that deflected off a Seahawk defender and went top shelf into the cage, putting SU on top 4-0.
  • Salisbury put the final nail in the coffin with under three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Dinopoulos found Marli McDorman off a penalty corner, and McDorman unleashed a snipe that kicked off an SMC defender's foot and into the goal, giving the Sea Gulls their winning 5-0 margin.
