EWING, N.J. – The Salisbury University men's swimming team put up strong numbers and saw two school records fall despite falling to The College of New Jersey Lions 172-90 in Saturday afternoon's season-opening New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) showdown at the TCNJ Aquatic Center.
MEET NOTES
- Mason Potts broke a pair of Sea Gull program records and medaled four times (three gold) on the way to a meet-best 27 points. Potts smashed the mark in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 50.83 seconds; he also overtook the 50-yard backstroke mantel at 23.29 seconds as part of the opening leg of SU's 200-yard medley relay. Potts also claimed victory in the 100-yard freestyle (46.72) and 100-yard butterfly (50.90).
- Christopher Knorr captured gold in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.14) and earned a pair of third-place finishes, including an individual bronze in the 100-yard butterfly (51.91).
- Michael DeSimone exited the pool with a gold, silver, and bronze medal, winning the 50-yard freestyle (21.55).
- SU took second place in the 200-yard medley relay behind a mark of 1:33.45 from Potts, Brody Hanlon, Owen Brewer, and DeSimone. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Brewer, DeSimone, Gabe Erb, and Knorr delivered a third-place finish in 3:12.71.
- In all the Sea Gulls took home 13 medals, including five golds, three silvers, and two bronzes.
The Sea Gulls will head to Arlington, Va., next Saturday to continue their season-opening three-meet road trip at Marymount (Va.). The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
