No. 2 Field Hockey outlasts No. 5 CNU in C2C showdown

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 2 Salisbury University field hockey program handed No. 5 Christopher Newport University its first loss of the season 3-1 Wednesday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium. This was the Captain's first regular season loss since 2022, which also came against the Sea Gulls inside Sea Gull Stadium.

CNU (9-1) earned the first few shots of the game but the Salisbury (12-1) defense stood tall. The Sea Gull offense then settled in and notched a two-goal lead in the first period of action. Emma Radebaugh tallied the first goal of the game after a penalty corner opportunity. Just three minutes following the first goal, Marli McDorman blasted a shot past the CNU goalie giving the Sea Gulls a 2-0 lead.

Madelyn Reed picked up the assist on the McDorman goal as once again the Sea Gulls capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity. Arden Hunteman earned the assist on the Radebaugh goal.

The teams were scoreless in the second period and Salisbury headed into halftime clinging to the 2-0 advantage. CNU cut the lead in half at the end of the third period as the top-five battle headed into the final quarter of action with the Sea Gulls leading 2-1.

With just under 10 minutes left in the ball game, Salisbury struck again to shut the door on CNU. Hunteman deflected a pass sent in from Regan Nacrelli that found the back of the goal

With this win, Salisbury earns the right to host the C2C Conference Championship game on Nov. 9th with a time to be announced.

Abbey McIlvain tallied five saves in goal
