NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University men's and women's track and field teams opened the indoor season in style, breaking two school records at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open on Saturday at the Freeman Center.
Women Meet Notes
- Emma Smyser started the day for the Sea Gulls by taking the pole vault at 2.93m. Smyser also placed third in the 400m running a 1:02.70
- Mia Hill earned a program record in the long jump posting a 5.45m jump and topping the podium. This also put her 11th nationally.
- Marlyse Haack placed second in the long jump behind Hill posting a 5.36 jump which earned her 26th nationally.
- In the high jump, Hannah King was tied for second place with a 1.53m jump.
- In the triple jump, Emma Christman placed fifth with a jump of 10.83 meters placing her 28th nationally.
- The Sea Gulls dominated the one-mile run, with three runners in the top five. Anna Bodmer led the way, setting a program record with a time of 5:11.84 and earning first place. This puts Bodmer 10th nationally for the mile.
- Leah Snyder placed second with a time of 5:34.77 while Kristen Riddell earned fifth with a time of 5:54.65.
- In the 60m hurdles, Brooke Hamer placed 4th with a time of 9.48 which places her 46th nationally.
- Peri Nelson and Morgan Jarrell placed second and third in the 800m.
- Karia Forvil placed second in the 200m with a time of 26.87 while Lilly Williams took fifth running a 27.45
- Madi Sisson took first place in the 3000m with a time of 11:13.02.
- The Sea Gulls took second place in the 4x400m relay as Lilly Williams, Karia Forvil, Marlyse Haack, and Emma Smyser posted a time of 4:15.73 which places 30th nationally.
Men Meet Notes
The Sea Gulls return after the holidays, traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Widener Winter Evening Invitational on Jan. 24th and 25th.
