SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and never looked back, cruising to a 4-0 win over the fifth-ranked Messiah Falcons on Saturday night at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls erupted for tallies on each of their first three shots in the first quarter. In the fifth minute,
Alayna Gigliotti powered a pass across the front of the cage and
McKenna Horner slammed home a one-timer for the opening goal. Just 32 seconds later,
Kaitlyn DeModna threaded a setup by two Falcon defenders and
Arden Hunteman deposited it in the back of the net to make it 2-0 SU.
Salisbury made it a first-quarter trifecta as
Madelyn Reed found Horner in front of the net for her second goal, making it 3-0 Sea Gulls in just over nine minutes of action. The Falcons got a pair of shots off in the second quarter but couldn't get them by the Salisbury defense, and the home side maintained its three-goal advantage into halftime.
SU tacked on another off a penalty corner in the third quarter as
Marli McDorman set up DeModna left of the cage to make it 4-0 in the 34th minute. The Sea Gulls held the line from there as
Abbey McIlvain locked down the clean sheet for an emphatic victory.
