No. 3 Field Hockey soars past Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The No. 3 Salisbury University field hockey program scored within the first 16 seconds of the contest and never looked back, earning a 3-0 win at Mary Washington University Wednesday afternoon at Battleground Turf Field.

The Sea Gulls (10-2) came out firing from the opening whistle, scoring just 16 seconds into the ball game. McKenna Horner found the back of the goal after a cross from the right side from Alex Kupper, giving SU an early 1-0 lead. The Gulls outshot the Eagles (7-5) 10-0 in the first quarter.

Marli McDorman added to the scoring just over 10 minutes into the first period, slotting a shot into the goal off a rebound. SU headed into the halftime break leading 2-0 and ahead on shots 12-1. They also earned 6 penalty corners to Mary Washington's two.

Horner was not finished, scoring another goal in the last minute of the third quarter off a double assist from Tessa Gray and Madelyn Reed. The Eagles were able to outshoot the Sea Gulls 9-6 in the second half, but the Sea Gulls' defense stood tall for their 9th shutout of the season.
