SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team put on another defensive masterclass, smothering the 14th-ranked Rowan Profs 2-0 on a rainy Wednesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium.
The teams played to a stalemate through the first. The Profs rattled off three shots in the first two minutes, with SU's
Regan Worley getting in front of all three for defensive saves.
The Sea Gulls finally broke through on their first shot of the game in the second quarter.
McKenna Horner found
Morgan Bradford on the end line in the 23rd minute, and Bradford deflected it off the RU goalie and into the cage to put Salisbury ahead 1-0.
SU kept the pressure up in the third quarter, outshooting the Profs 8-0, but RU keeper Mariah Juiliano kept six attempts on target out of the net to maintain the one-goal margin. The fourth quarter featured similar Sea Gull dominance, and
Alex Kupper doubled the home side's lead in the 49th minute, deflecting an attempt from
Marli McDorman to make it 2-0 and put the game on ice.
GAME NOTES
- Morgan Bradford scored her eighth goal of the season, while Alex Kupper added her sixth tally.
- McKenna Horner and Marli McDorman assisted on the Bradford and Kupper goals, respectively.
- The Sea Gulls outshot Rowan 15-4, including 15-1 from the second quarter on.
- Regan Worley registered three defensive saves, all in the game's first two minutes.
- Kelly Davis recorded one save to complete her fifth solo clean sheet of the year.
- Salisbury has recorded six straight shutouts at Sea Gull Stadium dating back to Sept. 13. SU hasn't allowed a goal at home since the season opener on Aug. 31 against Stockton.
The Sea Gulls will conclude their regular season with a visit to 23rd-ranked TCNJ on Saturday. Opening pushback from Ewing, N.J. is set for 1 p.m.
