HAMPTON, Va. – The Salisbury University women's swimming team built a lead of nearly 100 points after day one of the three-day Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex.
The Sea Gulls racked up 407.5 points, putting nearly triple digits' worth of distance between themselves and second-place Washington & Lee (317). Catholic (184) sits in a distant third.
PRELIMS
- Qualifying for the finals in the 500-yard freestyle: Addi Wood (5:02.18, 1st), Sadie Hebert (5:05.63, 2nd), Jenna Krawlzik (5:07.20, 3rd), Rowan Odonoghue (5:10.44, 5th), Grace Wienckowski (5:11.17, 6th), Kira Brown (5:11.24, 7th), Rachel Rickabaugh (5:13.09, 10th), and Delaney Gibbons (5:14.35, 12th).
- Qualifying for the finals in the 200 individual medley: Maddie Powell (2:09.48, 3rd), Mackenzie Gula (2:10.54, 5th), Logan Bagley (2:11.02, 6th), Samantha Watson (2:14.61), Morgan Adams (2:15.74, 16th), and Sierra Wakefield (2:17.50, 23rd).
- Qualifying for the finals in the 50 free: Kaitlyn McGuire (24.12, 1st), Lily Griffin (24.66, 6th), Alexa Hilty (24.68, t-7th), Isabelle Salvatore (24.73, 9th), and Libby Miyashita (25.15, 16th).
FINALS
- Salisbury took two podium slots in the 200 free relay. The A-team of Kaitlyn McGuire, Alexa Hilty, Lily Griffin, and Rowan Odonoghue touched first in 1:36.14; the B-team of Logan Bagley, Olivia Polucha, Rachel Rickabaugh, and Isabelle Salvatore placed third in 1:38.43.
- Odonoghue won the 500 free in 5:00.23, beating out teammates Addi Wood (5:00.49) and Sadie Hebert (5:06.81) on the podium and helping SU take eight of the top 10 positions.
- In the 200 IM, Mackenzie Gula earned a bronze in 2:08.34.
- McGuire seized second in the 50 free in 24.35 seconds, while Griffin tied for third at 24.41 seconds.
- The Sea Gulls took one-two in the 400 medley relay. Bringing home the gold medal in 3:52.48 were Bagley, Watson, Polucha, and Odonoghue. The silver team (3:52.99) included Salvatore, Powell, Griffin, and McGuire.
PROGRAM RECORDS
The Sea Gulls get back to work for day two of the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. Prelims are slated for 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
