No. 22 Men’s Swimming narrowly bested at No. 18 TCNJ

Freshman Byrd sets top NJAC 200 fly time (1:54.80)

EWING, N.J. – The 22nd-ranked Salisbury University men's swimming team kept up the pace but couldn't get over the hump in a narrow 154-108 defeat at the hands of the 18th-ranked TCNJ Lions in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at the TCNJ Aquatic Center.
 
MEET NOTES
  • Brody Hanlon led all swimmers with a meet-high 22 points, winning a pair of gold medals in the 100-yard breaststroke (58:07) and 200 breast (2:09.41) as well as a silver in the 200 individual medley (1:57.94).
  • Cameron Byrd medaled three times, highlighted by a golden performance in the 200 butterfly that established a new NJAC-leading mark of 1:54.80. Byrd also earned two silvers in the 100 freestyle (47.38) and as part of the 400 free relay team (3:08.67).
  • Mason Potts won the Sea Gulls' fourth and final gold of the day in the 100 fly, touching up in 50.43 seconds. He also brought home a trio of silvers in the 100 backstroke (51.32) and as part of both relays (1:32.13 in 200 medley, 3:08.67 in 400 free).
  • Matt Merke medaled three times with a silver in the 1,000 free (9:51.78) and bronzes in the 500 free (4:48.41) and 200 IM (1:59.39).
  • Michael DeSimone corralled three silver medals in the 50 free (21.50), 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay.
  • In all Salisbury came away with 19 medals: four gold, nine silver, and six bronze.
 
The Sea Gulls will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday at No. 20 Swarthmore as part of their fourth dual meet in five weeks. The swimmers hit the water in Swarthmore, Pa., at 12 p.m.
