No. 5 Field Hockey earns SUNYAC Tournament Title over Cortland

Dawn Chamberlin earns 600th career win

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The No. 5 Salisbury University field hockey program earned its 26th Conference Championship in program history with a 7-1 win over SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon at North Turf Field on the campus of SUNY New Paltz. With the win, head coach Dawn Chamberlin earned her 600th career win with the Sea Gulls. This is the first season that Salisbury competed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as an associate member and was able to claim the Title in year one. 

Marli McDorman got the scoring started for Salisbury just five minutes into the contest, giving the Sea Gulls an early 1-0 advantage. McKenna Horner picked up the assist on the McDorman goal. The Red Dragons tied the game just two minutes later, sending the teams into the second quarter tied 1-1.

McDorman tallied her second goal of the game in the second period, giving SU the lead back, which they carried into the halftime break. The Sea Gulls outshot the Red Dragons 22-2 in the first half while also earning 12 penalty corners to Cortland's zero. 

The scoring barrage started for the Gulls in the third quarter, posting three goals. Alex Kupper and Morgan Bradford both scored within a minute of each other before McDorman completed the hat trick in the last minute of the third quarter off an assist from Caroline Pusey

The Sea Gulls kept soaring in the fourth, Emma Abromavage and Horner picked up goals off assists from Bradford and Madelyn Reed

Game Notes
- Along with her second career hat trick, McDorman added an assist on the day. 
- Reed finished with two assists. 
- The Sea Gulls put 26 of their 37 shots on goal.
- SU also tallied 17 penalty corner chances to just three for Cortland.

The Sea Gulls finish the regular season with a 17-2 record along with the SUNYAC title. They will await their NCAA Tournament destiny during the NCAA selection show tomorrow at 9 p.m.
