NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track and field teams opened their title chase with a bang on Day 1 of the 2024 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
The Sea Gull women closed the first day of competition with 35 points, good for second place behind hosts CNU (47) and ahead of third-place UC Santa Cruz (29). The Sea Gull men slotted in second with 48 points, trailing CNU (64) and narrowly ahead of UC Santa Cruz (46).
Meet Notes
Women
- The Sea Gulls dominated the long jump. Mia Hill broke the school record, earning 1st place with a jump of 5.48 meters (17-11.75), which ranked 41st nationally. Emma Christman and Marlyse Haack earned 3rd and 4th, respectively. Christman posted a jump of 5.19 meters (17-00.50), with Haack just behind at 5.18 meters (17-00.00).
- Kailey Jarboe took 4th place in the weight throw at 11.93 meters (39-01.75) while Lexi Frick earned a point in 6th with a throw of 10.86 meters (37-07.75).
- Madi Sisson earned 5th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:57.49.
- In the distance medley relay, the team of Leah Snyder, Lilly Williams, Peri Nelson, and Anna Bodmer set a school record with a time of 12:41.62 earning second place ranking 30th nationally.
Men
- In the high jump, the Sea Gulls took first place, with Jadon Gaines posting a jump of 2.00 meters (6-06.75), which placed 25th nationally. Ryan Gorman earned fourth place with a jump of 1.75 meters (5-08.75).
- Mason Breeze and Jacob Reeves placed 4th and 5th in the weight throw respectively. Breeze posted a throw of 16.08 meters (52-09.25) while Reeves tallied a throw of 15.42 meters (50-07.25).
- Peyton Dill and Christian Arturi earned 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault at 3.76 meters (12-04.00) and 3.66 meters (12-00.00 feet).
- Jon Alicea earned a 4th place finish in the long jump at 6.54 meters (21-05.50).
- Landon Lewicki placed 5th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:30.34.
- Gavin Shaffer led the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.06 which ranks top-10 nationally.
- In the distance medley relay, the team of Justin Freeman, Dominic Roddy, Graham Schultz, and Connor Kinch placed 2nd with a time of 10:31.81 which ranks 42nd nationally.
The Sea Gulls will conclude their run at the C2C Indoor Championships with Day 2 on Saturday. The first events from the Freeman Center are set for 11 a.m.
