NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track and field men's team earned second place while the women placed third at the Coast-to-Coast Indoor Conference Championships inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gull men closed the competition with 141 points, good for second place behind meet winner UC Santa Cruz (154) and ahead of third place and host CNU (135). The Sea Gull women finished in third with 117 points, trailing meet winner CNU (165) and second place UC Santa Cruz (158). SU saw two records fall this weekend with multiple student-athletes earning podium finishes heading back to Salisbury with hardware.
Meet Notes
Women
- The Sea Gulls wrapped up the day earning gold in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:08.88 from the team of Lilly Williams, Marlyse Haack, Karia Forvil, and Emma Smyser.
- Smyser grabbed gold in the pole vault at 3.19 meters (10-05.50) while also earning a podium finish in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.36 which was good enough for third place.
- SU placed two in the top three of the triple jump with Emma Christman taking second place with a jump of 11.11 meters (36-05.50) which places 64th nationally. Marlyse Haack earned third place with a jump of 10.86 meters (35-07.75). Christman also earned SU points in the 60-meter dash with a 6th-place finish and a time of 8.23.
- Kailey Jarboe placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 9.90 meters (32-05.75). Lexi Frick earned a point finishing 6th with a throw of 9.69 meters (31-09.50).
- Kaitlyn Stevens earned a podium finish in the high jump placing third with a jump of 1.48 meters (4-10.25).
- Anna Bodmer earned a 5th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:20.37.
- Brooke Hamer grabbed a podium finish with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.62. Kennedy Atkins and Hayden Adams placed 5th and 6th respectively earning points for the Sea Gulls. Atkins posted a time of 10.05 while Adams posted a time of 10.34.
- Karia Forvil earned a 4th place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.95. Forvil also finished 4th in the 200-meter with a time of 26.62 while fellow Sea Gull Lilly Williams earned 5th with a time of 27.00.
- Peri Nelson snagged 3rd in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.06.
- Madi Sisson earned 6th place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:58.78.
Men
- The Sea Gull men also snagged gold in the 4x400 relay with the team of Isaiah Rivera, Hayden Myers, Dominic Roddy, and Kai Smith with a time of 3:22.94.
- Gavin Shaffer struck gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.22. Andrew Moxley placed 4th with a time of 9.08 while Jeremy Linden earned 6th with a time of 9.61.
- Kai Smith also struck gold in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.55. Dominic Roddy and Hayden Myers earned 4th and 5th with times of 50.68 and 50.78. Smith went on to place 2nd in the 200-meter with a time of 22.19.
- SU placed two in the top three of the triple jump with Jadon Gaines earning 2nd place and Jon Alicea taking 3rd place. Gaines posted a jump of 13.71 meters (44-11.75) which ranks 78th nationally. Alicea posted a jump of 13.39 meters (43-11.25).
- JJ McCauley and Mason Breeze placed 5th and 6th in the shot put respectively. McCauley posted a throw of 13.99 meters (45-10.75) while Breeze posted a throw of 13.62 meters (44-08.25).
- Jacob Shelton placed 2nd in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00 while Aaron Dufresne placed 4th with a time of 7.10.
- Justin Freeman and Graham Schultz earned podium finishes in the 800-meter run. Freeman earned 2nd with a time of 1:55.67 while Schultz grabbed 3rd with a time of 1:56.88.
