SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's basketball team stands one game from a postseason title, traveling to face the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan in the 2025 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Saturday, March 15th in Virginia Beach, Va. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. from TowneBank Arena.
The Sea Gulls enter the ECAC title bout with an 18-10 overall record, having won 11 of 14 games to open the 2024-25 campaign and posting the highest single-season win total under head coach
Maurice "Mo" Williams. SU opened its run in the ECAC bracket with a 77-63 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls before closing out the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights in the semifinal by a 69-65 final.
POSTSEASON PERFORMERS
Kedrick Frink and
Aidan Camper have headlined the Sea Gull efforts through SU's two ECAC battles, with each half of the tandem averaging 15.5 points per game in the tournament. Camper has caught fire from range of late, shooting 58.3 percent from beyond the arc in the two-game stretch.
Reed Rebstock helped the Sea Gulls roll past UMPI, dropping 18 points and connecting on four three-pointers while hauling in eight rebounds. Frink and
Jordan Oates were critical to SU's win over third-seeded NJCU in the semifinal.
Oates tallied his 20th double-double of the campaign, posting 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting while hauling in 13 rebounds and sending back a pair of Knight shot attempts. Frink danced around a triple-double in the win, dropping 11 points while adding a career-high nine assists and collecting seven rebounds.
MEET THE MARLINS
The Marlins enter their third meeting with the Sea Gulls with a 21-7 overall record, going 12-4 in ODAC play to earn the fourth seed in the ODAC Tournament. VWU cruised to a 73-51 win over eighth-seeded Franciscan before a key second-half surge pushed the Marlins past McDaniel, 75-62.
Three Marlins have averaged double-digit points in 2024-25, led by senior guard Omari DeVeaux's 14.1 points per contest. Junior forward Amari Moorer ranks second in scoring with 12.3 points per game while leading the team in cleaning the glass 7.8 times per matchup, and junior guard Khai Seargeant slots third on the squad, tallying 11.8 points per bout.
THE HISTORY
Saturday's championship tilt marks the third meeting between the Marlins and Sea Gulls in 2025, with each team notching a road victory in the season series. Salisbury claimed the first meeting on Nov. 26th, using a 46-point second half to erase a 10-point deficit and snatch a 72-69 win over the Marlins at TowneBank Arena. The Marlins claimed their win in 2025, escaping Maggs Gymnasium with a 61-56 win despite a 14-point, 15-rebound effort from Oates.
VWU holds a 25-21 edge in the all-time series, claiming three of the last four matchups. Salisbury held the edge prior, claiming five of seven matchups between the foes from 2015-2021.
