GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Sydney McCallie of the Salisbury University women's swimming team wrapped up her storied season with her third top-20 finish at the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, placing 18th in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
McCallie (Gr. – Mineral Wells, W.V.) improved four slots from her qualifying mark by posting a time of 2:19.58 during the morning preliminary session, two positions and less than a second off the pace of the finals cutline. She would have been the second alternate if anyone in the top 16 had been unable to compete in the evening session.
The strong performance in her third and final event at nationals serves as a victory lap for the greatest single-season performance in Sea Gull women's swimming history. Transferring to Salisbury after a decorated four years at Kenyon College, McCallie rewrote the school record book in 2024-25, setting nine program records and seven Maggs Pool records. She won five gold medals and one silver at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships, leading the Sea Gulls to their first league title in any conference in program history.
McCallie became the first SU swimmer – man or woman – to qualify for nationals since 2001 and became the university's first-ever women's All-American (second overall), earning Second-Team laurels in the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday and 400-yard individual medley on Thursday. With her five points scored across the two events, Salisbury will place on the NCAA women's leaderboard for the first time ever, slotting 35th overall.
Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with affiliate membership in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (football, men's & women's swimming) and the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (men's lacrosse).
