Three from Swimming dubbed CSCAA Scholar All-Americans

Women’s, Men’s teams both earn team honors for spring semester

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A program-record three individuals headlined a strong semester in the classroom for Salisbury University, whose women's and men's sides both earned Division III Spring Scholar All-America Team status from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) this week.

Sydney McCallie was recognized as a CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American, while Maddie Powell and Christopher Knorr were both named Second-Team Scholar All-Americans. All three posted grade-point averages of 3.50 and above for the semester to garner recognition. McCallie slotted on the First Team after qualifying for the NCAA Championships, while Powell and Knorr made the Second Team by virtue of their NCAA "B" cut times.

McCallie (Gr. – Mineral Wells, W.V.) adds one more feather in her swim cap from a historic season in the pool. She posted strong classroom marks in the SU Applied Biology graduate program after earning a Bachelor's in Biology and Studio Art at Kenyon College. A College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree for the third time in her career, McCallie recorded the best all-around season in Sea Gull women's swimming history, capturing five New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) gold medals, qualifying for three races at the NCAA Championships, and taking home two All-America nods.

Powell (So. – Fairfax, Va.) adds CSCAA Scholar laurels to her own CSC Academic All-District selection from this year. A Computer Science major and Mathematics minor, Powell became an All-NJAC honoree for the first time in her career by winning the silver medal in the 200 breast; she also registered two other top-six finishes.

Knorr (5th – Baltimore, Md.) recently completed dual degrees in Finance and Environmental studies with a minor in Accounting. He earned a pair of silver medals at the NJAC championships, finishing second in the 200 fly and as part of the 400 IM relay; he also slotted fifth in the 100 fly.

In addition to individual All-Americans, the CSCAA recognizes teams that carry GPAs of 3.0 or higher during a semester as All-America squads. The Sea Gull women posted a 3.65 team GPA in the spring to capture an eighth straight honor, while the Sea Gull men took home a third straight nod with a 3.37 GPA.

A total of 763 teams from 432 schools across all divisions – 18,459 student-athletes in all – hauled in Scholar All-America recognition for the Spring 2025 semester.

Both Sea Gull swimming teams completed historic runs during the 2024-25 campaign. The SU women won the NJAC championship for a first-ever conference title, while the men placed third in the NJAC, just 8.5 off of second. The two Salisbury sides combined to go 13-1 in dual meets on the year.
