GREENWOOD, Ind. – Eight members of the Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams were
tabbed for the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District teams, as revealed by the organization earlier this week.
Sydney McCallie,
Olivia Polucha,
Maddie Powell, and
Samantha Watson earned slots on the Women's Academic All-District team, while
Owen Brewer,
Nick Corcoran,
David Gardner, and
Gabriele Miksa made the Men's Academic All-District team.
McCallie (Gr. – Mineral Wells, W.V.) is an Academic All-District honoree for the third time after making a pair of Academic All-America teams at Kenyon College in 2023 and 2024. She currently carries a 4.00 grade-point average in the Applied Biology graduate program at SU to go along with her 3.86 undergrad GPA in Biology and Studio Art at Kenyon; between the two institutions, she has made the Dean's List nine times. At Kenyon, McCallie was an active member of the Fiber Arts Club, volunteered for Special Olympics meets, and participated in the college's National Women & Girls in Sports Day.
McCallie adds another honor to a season that saw her win five New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) gold medals, qualify for the NCAA Championships in three events, and make two All-America teams.
Polucha (So. – Odenton, Md.) boasts a 4.00 GPA in the university's Pre-Nursing program. A two-time Dean's List honoree, Polucha is a committed member of the local Girls on Top of the World service organization. She has also been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma national student-athlete honor society. In the pool, Polucha earned fourth place in three events at the NJAC Championships.
Powell (So. – Fairfax, Va.) sports a 3.66 GPA as a Computer Science major and a Mathematics minor. She has made the Dean's List twice during her SU tenure. Powell captured her first All-NJAC honor by winning the silver medal in the 200-yard breaststroke; she also placed top-six in two other events.
Watson (Jr. – Holbrook, N.Y.) holds a 4.00 GPA as a double major in Exercise Science and Biology. A five-time Dean's-Lister, she is a member of the Clarke Honors College, Exercise Physiology Research Lab, Chi Alpha Sigma, Exercise Science Club, and the Relay for Life planning committee, as well as serving as a biology tutor. Watson finished top-five in a pair of events at the NJAC Championships.
Brewer (So. – Mechanicsburg, Pa.) boasts a 3.87 GPA as an Exercise Science major on the Pre-Physical Therapy track. He is actively involved in the Exercise Science Club and Relay for Life and has made the Dean's List three times. Brewer medaled in four events at the NJAC Championships, including a gold as the anchor of the Sea Gulls' 400-yard freestyle relay team.
Corcoran (So. – Parkville, Md.) sports a 3.61 GPA majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Mathematics and Data Science. A two-time Dean's List honoree, he participates in the Math and Computer Science Club, as well as the Pi Mu Epsilon and Upsilon Pi Epsilon honor societies for math and computer science, respectively. Corcoran swam in four events at the NJAC Championships.
Gardner (Jr. – Easton, Md.) clocks in with a 3.53 GPA as a Data Science major with a Geoanalytics concentration, plus minors in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Business Analytics. He is involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Chi Alpha Sigma and has qualified for the Dean's List three semesters. Gardner competed in four races at the NJAC Championships.
Miksa (Jr. – Doylestown, Pa.) holds a 3.95 GPA as a Chemistry major. He has made the Dean's List five times and served with the Clarke Honors College, Ethics Club, Henson Student Leadership Advisory Council, and SAAC. Miksa took home a bronze medal with the 200-yard medley relay team at the NJAC Championships.
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. Select All-District honorees will move to balloting for the Academic All-America teams, which will be revealed on Apr. 22 (women) and Apr. 23 (men).
