SALISBURY, Md. – The third-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team opened the 2025 slate with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Stockton Ospreys on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
After a barrage of first-quarter attempts, the Sea Gulls broke through off a penalty corner in the eighth minute.
Madelyn Reed picked up a rebound off a shot and fed
McKenna Horner to the left of the cage, and Horner arced a backhand over the goalie and into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Salisbury kept the pressure up in the second quarter as
Morgan Bradford took a 20th-minute deflection and rocketed one top-shelf to double the Sea Gull advantage. Stockton got one back two minutes later as Maura Somers found Carlee Thompson off a penalty corner, but five minutes after that
Marli McDorman worked her way into the arc and weaved through traffic, beating the keeper to send the home side into the half up 3-1.
McDorman continued feasting on the Ospreys in the third quarter, netting her second and third goals of the game in a two-minute span to boost the lead to 5-1. Leah Bruchansky scratched one back for Stockton late in the period, but the Sea Gulls cruised through the fourth quarter to salt away a 5-2 margin.
