No. 3 Field Hockey edges out Washington (Md.) in overtime thriller

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The No. 3 Salisbury University field hockey program edged out Washington College (Md.) 1-0 in an overtime thriller Wednesday night inside Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.

The Shorewomen (0-2) came out strong in the first period of action, outshooting the Sea Gulls 3-1. The Sea Gulls (2-0) would settle into the ball game during the second quarter of action and carry that momentum into the third, where they outshot Washington (Md.) 8-1.

In the second half as a whole, SU tallied 12 more shots than the Shorewomen but could never edge one past the Washington (Md.) keeper. The Sea Gulls also did not see their first penalty corner opportunity until the second half of play, earning five in the third and three in the fourth.

With under 10 minutes left in regulation, the Shorewomen earned a penalty corner and a chance to take a late lead that was stopped by Regan Worley, earning her first defensive save of the night and keeping the game scoreless.

The Sea Gulls posted six shots in the final seven minutes of action but were held at bay, sending the game into overtime. Worley would tally another clutch defensive save in overtime to keep SU alive in the fourth minute of overtime. Madelyn Reed quickly found a streaking McKenna Horner on the counter, who beat the Washington (Md.) goalie, giving the Sea Gulls the overtime victory.

Game Notes
