WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 17th-ranked Salisbury University men's swimming team nearly swept every gold medal for the second straight meet on the way to a 201-61 drubbing of the Catholic Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at DuFour Center Pool.
MEET NOTES
- Owen Mahoney continued his stellar rookie campaign with a pair of gold medals, winning the 400-yard individual medley (4:06.52) and 1,000 freestyle (9:35.11), the latter of which established a new SU program record and sits as the top event time in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) this season.
- Mason Potts medaled in all four of his events, winning three golds and one silver. Individually, Potts touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (50.64) and second in the 50 free (21.27).
- Owen Brewer secured two golds and a silver, including a solo victory in the 100 free (47.16) and runner-up finish in the 200 free (1:45.79).
- Aidan Loehr won the 100 breaststroke (57.44) and took second in the 200 breast (2:13.70) as part of a three-medal day.
- Shad Frantz posted the mirror image of Brewer's day, besting his teammate in the 200 free (1:44.86) and bowing to him in the 100 free (47.90).
- Cameron Byrd earned two gold medals and one bronze, taking an individual title in the 200 fly (1:54.29) and third in the 200 free (1:46.23).
- Salisbury earned the top two slots in the meet-opening 200 medley relay. A-side Potts, Dominic Kazzi, Michael Paulos, and Michael DeSimone won the event in 1:32.29, followed closely by B-team Lucas Mitchell, Loehr, Griffin Harris, and Everett Rachael (1:34.32).
- In the 400 free relay, Potts, Byrd, Rachael, and Brewer topped the field by nearly four seconds, touching first in 3:07.45.
- SU won gold medals in 13 of the meet's 14 events, adding 11 silvers and eight bronzes for 32 medals aggregate.
PROGRAM RECORDS
The Sea Gulls will swim for the final time in the regular season at Washington College on Friday evening. First events from Chestertown, Md., are set for 6 p.m.
