Henneman defends Melee crown; Men’s Golf third in fall finale

Junior erases five-stroke deficit to repeat as PCT event champion

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – For the second straight year, Ryan Henneman of the Salisbury University men's golf team overcame a crowded leaderboard to rise to the top of the field at the Melee, winning the individual title at the Premier Collegiate Tournaments fall tournament after round two on Tuesday at Williamsburg National Golf Club.

Thanks in large measure to Henneman's prowess, the Sea Gulls finished third in the field of 11 teams for the week, shaving off 10 strokes from round-to-round with a 12-over 300. SU posted a 34-over 610 across the tournament, edging out fourth-place McDaniel (611) for the final spot on the podium and trailing only winners Batten (600) and runners-up Drew (605).

ROUND NOTES
  • Ryan Henneman started the day tied for third on an individual leaderboard that featured 55 competitors and trailed the clubhouse leader by five strokes. Setting the tone with a birdie on five to open the shotgun-start format, Henneman eventually sank three birdies over a seven-hole stretch from 10 to 16 and shot consistent pars the rest of the way.
  • By sinking a par put on four, Henneman finished the day with a two-under 70, giving him a two-day score of a one-under 143 and outfoxing McDaniel's Dylan Muso by one stroke for the solo crown.
  • Henneman has now won the Melee two years in a row after taking the title by two strokes at nearby Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg in October 2025. It marks his third career tournament championship and first since the Sea Gull Invitational this past April.
  • Cole Velardo shot a six-over 78 for the round to finish the week at an 11-over 155. He finished tied for 23rd on the individual rolls.
  • Alex Langford improved by three strokes by carding his own six-over 78, taking a tie for 28th with a total 15-over 159.
  • Colton Thomas was the Sea Gulls' biggest climber on Tuesday, cutting 11 strokes off his first round with a two-over 74. Thomas rose 17 slots on the final leaderboard into a tie for 28th with a 15-over 159.
  • Parker Pruitt registered the SU drop score with a respectable nine-over 81. His 16-over 160 for the week was good for a 33rd-place tie.

With the fall portion of their 2026-27 schedule now complete, the Sea Gulls will regroup for the spring 2027 slate, which will be announced at a later date.
