WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's golf team continued building on its reputation as one of the region's fastest-rising programs after a solid final round at the DIII Northeast Elite tournament on Monday at Williamsport Country Club.
After finishing the final holes of round one at a 15-over 299, the Sea Gulls posted a 22-over 306 in round two, finishing ninth among the field of 18 teams. SU eked out a top-half finish over McDaniel and Hobart (606) in 10th place while finishing just one stroke back of Allegheny (604) for eighth and three back of Swarthmore (602) for seventh.
ROUND NOTES
- Ryan Henneman remained steady from round-to-round and shot an even-par 71 for the second straight day, notching two birdies against two bogeys. Henneman's two-day even-par 142 earned him second place among the 90 individual golfers; he was bested only by Penn State Altoona's Max Mottura, who shot a 66 in the final round and won the title by two strokes.
- Colton Thomas posted an eight-over 79 for the afternoon, good for a two-day seven-over 149 that slotted in a tie for 18th individually.
- Cole Velardo finished the final two holes of his first round and entered the clubhouse at eight-over 79. From there he shaved three strokes off his next card with a five-over 76, including an eagle on the par-five sixth hole. Velardo ultimately improved by 13 positions and finished in a tie for 51st with a 13-over 155.
- Parker Pruitt chipped in a nine-over 80 and finished tied for 71st at a 17-over 159.
- Evan Oglesby shot an 18-over 89 for SU's drop score; he finished 88th with a 26-over 168.
The Sea Gulls will leap into October with a 36-hole day at the Stevenson Fall Shootout later this week. Salisbury will play two full rounds at Piney Branch Golf Club on Thursday, with the first one set for 8 a.m. and the second penciled in for 1 p.m.
