No. 4 Field Hockey opens SUNYAC play victorious over Oswego State

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 4 Salisbury University field hockey team opened State University of New York Athletic Conference play against Oswego State Saturday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium with a 1-0 win. 

The Sea Gulls (7-2) controlled the contest from the opening whistle, recording 11 shots and three penalty corners in the first quarter. Salisbury broke through at the 10:14 mark when Devon DeGregory found the back of the cage off assists from Alex Kupper and Ryan Lowe to give the Sea Gulls a 1-0 lead.

Salisbury continued to apply pressure throughout the second quarter, registering nine shots and three penalty corners. Oswego goalkeeper Sam Krautheim kept the Lakers within one, making eight saves in the frame as the Sea Gulls carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Salisbury's defense did not allow Oswego to generate a single shot throughout the contest. Maddie Castaneda recorded her third shutout of the season without needing to make a save, as the Sea Gulls held the Lakers without a shot for all 60 minutes.

Game Notes
- The Sea Gulls outshot Oswego 33-0 and put 24 shots on goal.
- Salisbury earned 18 penalty corners compared to zero for the Lakers.
- Layla Kent led Salisbury with nine shots and six shots on goal.

The Sea Gulls return to action tomorrow, Oct. 4, for the second leg of their New York road trip against SUNY Morrisville. Action is set for noon in Morrisville, N.Y.
