Men’s Golf opens strong at Sea Gull Invitational

Sea Gull B-team first, A-team third halfway through home tournament

QUANTICO, Md. – The Salisbury University men's golf team enters the clubhouse with two of the top three team positions and the top three individuals after the first round of the inaugural two-day Sea Gull Invitational on Saturday at Green Hill Country Club.
 
The Sea Gull B-team (Henneman, Langford, Pruitt, Bandy, Bowen) leads the field of 10 teams after shooting a 30-over 318 for the round. The SU A-team (Thomas, Oglesby, Diglio, Carnegie, Cahill) sits four strokes back in third with a 34-over 322, with the two squads separated by the A-team from Capital (Ohio) [321] in second.
 
ROUND NOTES
  • Ryan Henneman is the clubhouse leader for the field of 52 individuals after carding a three-over 75 for the round. Henneman birdied on the par-five sixth and 15th holes, as well as on par-four 17.
  • Colton Thomas is right on Henneman's heels in second with a four-over 76, moving up the leaderboard with three straight birdies on 16, 17, and 18 to finish his round.
  • Evan Oglesby in turn finished one behind Thomas in third with a five-over 77, including birdies on 14 and 16.
  • Alex Langford carded a seven-over 79 with a birdie on 15, good for a tie for sixth.
  • Cameron Nicholson, playing as an individual, carded an eight-over 80 with birdies on 15 and 17, giving the Sea Gulls five players inside the top 10 by tying for ninth.
  • Parker Pruitt shot a nine-over 81 to tie for 14th, while Vincent Diglio and Gage Bandy each registered 11-over 83s to sit in an 18th-place tie.
  • Peter Carnegie finished the round tied for 35th with a 14-over 86, with Dominic Cahill and individual Mason Ellis slotting right behind after a 15-over 87s that tied for 40th.
  • Ben Bowen carded an 18-over 90, good for 47th overall.
 
The Sea Gulls will look to secure both team and individual championships at the second and final round of the Sea Gull Invitational on Sunday. Following a brief Senior Day ceremony to honor Mason Ellis at 8:40 a.m., the teams will play in a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
