SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 4 Salisbury University field hockey team fell 2-1 in double overtime against York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (6-2) struck first in the opening quarter when Devon DeGregory found the back of the cage in the 12th minute. DeGregory's goal came off an assist from Layla Kent to give Salisbury a 1-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.
Salisbury controlled much of the offensive action throughout the first half, holding a 9-3 advantage in shots while earning four penalty corners compared to York's three. York (6-3) found the equalizer late in the second quarter in the 29th minute, sending the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Sea Gulls continued to pressure the York defense in the second half, outshooting the Spartans 15-1 over the third and fourth quarters. Salisbury earned seven penalty corners during the second half and generated numerous scoring opportunities, but York's goalkeeper kept the Sea Gulls off the scoreboard.
Salisbury continued to apply pressure in the first overtime period, earning a penalty corner and putting a shot on goal, but neither team could break the deadlock.
The Sea Gulls again created chances throughout the second overtime period, but York eventually found the game-winner with just 36 seconds remaining.

The Sea Gulls return to action this weekend when they travel to New York for a pair of contests to open SUNYAC play. They open up Saturday against Oswego State before taking on SUNY Morrisville on Sunday with both games set for noon.
