FREDERICK, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
soccer team went on the road Saturday to take on Capital Athletic
Conference opponent Hood College and came home with a 7-1 victory.
The Sea Gulls (9-4-1, 4-3 CAC) scored five first half goals to
bury the Blazers (6-8-1, 1-6-1 CAC) early. The onslaught was
started when sophomore Steven Merrow netted his
first goal of the year on a pass from fellow sophomore
Scott Sparrow (three assists) at the nine minute
mark. One minute later Salisbury struck with a score from freshman
Kyle Sterling (two goals, 1a). Senior Wijy
Jones (1g, 1a) extended his consecutive games with a goal
streak to four with a goal in the 17th minute. Sterling added an
unassisted strike and set up sophomore Nick
Malone's lone goal which sent Hood into halftime with a
5-0 deficit.
Dico Doran's third goal of the year came less
than two minutes into the second half, giving Sparrow his third
assist in the process.
Hood got its only score from an unassisted goal by forward
Marcelino Rabara in the 61st minute past Salisbury backstop
Matt Blue. The junior recorded his third win in
goal for the Gulls. Freshman Josh
Scotton also saw time in goal for SU and stopped
two shots.
Senior Jason Smith scored the final goal for
Salisbury on a feed from junior Zach Grubb to seal
the victory.
Salisbury returns home to take on Marymount for its final home
and regular season CAC game on Wednesday, October 25, at 4 p.m.
