Sea Gulls split Sunday doubleheader

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's and women's tennis team both went 1-1 on Sunday as both SU teams fell 7-2 to Johns Hopkins University but rebounded to sweep Capital Athletic Conference opponent Gallaudet University 9-0 at the SU Tennis Complex.

The Salisbury men (13-5, 5-1 CAC) battled hard with the Blue Jays as Brendan Kincaid took the No. 13 player in the nation, David Maldow, to three sets but fell, 3-6, 7-6, 2-6.

Evan Thomas suffered his first loss in singles competition this season as he fell in straight sets to JHU's Larry Wei, 6-4, 6-4. Thomas is now 16-1 for the season.

Kincaid and the rest of the Sea Gulls bounced back to take all the matches with Gallaudet in straight sets.

The Sea Gull women (9-7, 5-1 CAC) took two doubles matches from the Blue Jays as the team of Anna Marie Kable and Jackie Burr as well as the team of Hannah Parsons and Robyn Wendell won 8-6 and 9-8 each, respectively.

SU carried the momentum of its two doubles wins against JHU to the Gallaudet match as the Gulls swept the overmatched and undermanned competition.

Kable and Burr are now 11-1 as a team and sport a 4-1 conference mark.

The Sea Gulls return to action as both the men and women host CAC foe York (Pa.) College at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, at the SU Tennis Complex.
