YORK, Pa. - The No. 12 Salisbury University
men's tennis team locked up the top seed in the upcoming Capital
Athletic Conference tournament as the Sea Gulls defeated York (Pa.)
College, 8-1, on the road Wednesday. SU (14-1) is a perfect 6-0 in
conference play this season. The Salisbury women's team (12-2, 5-0
CAC) has yet to allow a point in conference play as the Sea Gulls
blanked the Spartans 9-0.
The SU men's team began the match with a straight sweep at
doubles with three points. The Sea Gulls held their own at
singles but senior Brendan Kincaid suffered his
first loss at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4 to York's Tim Mowrer. Junior
Matt Nicholson, sophomores Scott
Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas along with
freshman David Lupinetti and junior Sasha
Felikson won at No. 2 through No. 6 singles, respectively.
On the women's side, the Sea Gulls rolled behind sophomores
Kelly Fahrner and Rachel Iosue.
The duo won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles while Fahrner won 6-0, 6-2 at No.
1 singles followed by Iosue's 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 2 singles.
Sophomores Jackie Burr and Kristen
King along with freshmen Angela Tenaglia
and Julia Glanz locked up wins at No. 3 through
No. 6 singles, respectively. The Sea Gulls were 3-0 at doubles.
This is the fourth straight 9-0 win for the Sea Gulls.
The Sea Gulls will next prepare for a road trip to Ewing, N.J.,
to face nationally ranked The College of Jersey this Saturday,
April 5, at 10 a.m. Salisbury's women's team will close out their
CAC schedule on Sunday with a road match against No. 7 University
of Mary Washington.
