HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 12 Salisbury
University men's tennis team doubled up Haverford College 6-3
Sunday on the road in a key Atlantic South region match. The
nationally ranked Sea Gulls, ranked No. 11 in the region, improve
to 15-2 for the season as the Fords, ranked No. 10 in the region,
drop to 7-3.
Salisbury senior Brendan Kincaid, ranked No. 13
in the region, continued his dominance at No. 1 singles play as he
defeated Tom Kinrade, ranked No. 20 in the region, by the score
of 6-4, 6-2. Sophomores Scott Burtzlaff and
Evan Thomas and freshman David
Lupinetti earned back-to-back-to-back victories at
No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. All four of SU's
singles victories came in straight set fashion.
In doubles play, Kincaid and Burtzlaff, ranked No. 10 in
the region, fell to Kinrade and Evan Stiegel, ranked No. 12 in
the region, 9-8 at No. 1 doubles. The loss marked the first
time this season that the dominant SU doubles team lost consecutive
matches. Junior Matt Nicholson and Thomas claimed
an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles while sophomore Marcus
Robinson and freshman Andrew Nottage won
9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
The Gulls have won seven of their last eight matches and look to
continue the success this Sunday, April 13, when they
travel to Baltimore to face No. 22 Johns Hopkins University, ranked
No. 3 in the region, and Goucher College.
