Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team turned in a dominant performance on Thursday,
beating conference rival Gallaudet University, 9-1. The nine goals
scored by the Sea Gull attack marked its highest tally of the
season, and moved its Capital Athletic Conference record to 5-1.
Senior forward Christina Eury
(Germantown, Md.) initiated the SU scoring barrage
with a goal in the first two minutes of play, as she would finish
with a career-high two goals on the day. Salisbury freshman
forward Jessica Robinson
(Ocean, N.J.) scored three goals in the second half,
two of which came within three minutes of each other. Her
performance was a career high, while freshman forward Julia Finecey
(Berlin, Md.) contributed with two goals of her own.
Salisbury sophomore forward Amanda Zyzak (Damascus,
Md.) got her first career assist, and scored once on a
drive to the goal while maneuvering through several Gallaudet
defenders.
The Bisons' only goal came from freshman Shaquana McDonough on a
free kick from near midfield. Her high-arching shot just barely
escaped the outstretched fingers of Salisbury goalkeeper Melissa Orgera
(Arnold, Md.) and pulled Gallaudet (5-11-1, 0-7 CAC)
to within two of SU in the 23rd minute of the first half, 3-1. The
SU offense responded with a relentless attack, amassing an
additional six goals before the final whistle sounded.
Orgera made one save, playing just the first half, to
collect her eighth win of the season. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Kaufman
(Germantown, Md.) played the second half, but saw
little action as the Sea Gulls (9-3-2) allowed Gallaudet few
opportunities to threaten the Salisbury goal.
The Salisbury women's soccer team will return to action on Oct.
24 when it travels to play conference opponent St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
