ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Salisbury University
volleyball team got back in the win column with a four-set victory
at Capital Athletic Conference foe Marymount University Tuesday
night. Salisbury dropped the first set but was able to refocus and
dominate in the next three to claim the win, 21-25, 25-16, 25-12,
25-8.
Salisbury (16-2, 3-0 CAC) was led by senior middle hitter
Nicole Massarelli (Clarksville, Md.), who finished
the match with 12 kills on 15 attempts and no attack errors,
collecting her 1,000th kill of her Salisbury career on her final
kill of the night. Massarelli also had four assist blocks in the
match.
It was Massarelli's second milestone of the season as she
recently climbed to the top of the career blocks list in program
history, passing Abbey Petrecca (2003-06).
Senior outside hitter Rachel Downes (Salisbury,
Md.) recorded 10 kills on 22 attempts in Tuesday's
match with no errors and added five digs. Downes earned her 1,000th
kill of her career last weekend during the Sea Gull Classic.
Junior outside hitter Kelly Williams (Laurel, Md.)
also had eight kills while setters Carley Todd (Centerport,
N.Y.) and Lindsey Saltzman (Penfield,
N.Y.) chipped in with 20 and 13 assists, respectively.
Tuesday's win at Marymount (7-8, 0-3 CAC) pushes the Sea
Gulls' win streak against CAC opponents to 18 matches.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action Wednesday night when they
travel to Wesley College to continue their CAC schedule. The match
is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
