THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Salisbury
University tennis program wrapped up its annual spring break trip
to California with matches against California Lutheran University.
The women's team racked up an 8-1 victory, while the men fell
9-0.
On the women's side, the Sea Gulls (6-0) won five of six
singles matches in a contest that featured two teams ranked No. 8
in each of their own regional rankings. Senior Jackie Burr
(Dover, Del.) led the way at No. 1 singles for the Sea
Gulls; she won the first set 6-3 and dropped the second set 3-6
before claiming the third set 6-0. The maroon and gold claimed all
three doubles points, with junior Angela
Tenaglia (Clarksville, Md.) and freshman Elaina Iosue (Damascus, Md.) claiming an easy
8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 30-ranked Sea Gull men (4-4) dropped a decision to the No.
10-ranked Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran. SU senior Scott
Burtzlaff (Clarksville, Md.) squared off with the
nation's No. 8 singles player in Andrew Giuffrida at No. 1 singles
and gave the match of the day. Giuffrida captured the first set 6-2
before he won the second set in a tiebreaker 7-5.
The men's and women's teams will hit the road on
March 23 for a pair of contests against Virginia Wesleyan College.
The two teams are schedule to play at 3 p.m.
