Sea Gulls fall to Roanoke, 1-0, in final contest of 2010 Shellenberger Soccer Classic

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team fell to Roanoke College, 1-0, in the final contest of the 2010 Shellenberger Soccer Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (2-4) fell victim to a first half goal by the Maroons (2-2-1) in the 42nd minute and were unable to even things up in the contest. The Maroons' tally came following a corner kick, as they had a shot blocked by a SU defender that Roanoke's Katelyn LaPore collected and put into the net for the game-winner.

Salisbury would not go down without a fight, as the Sea Gulls put numerous shots on frame but were unable to break through. SU held a 13-8 advantage in shots, including five shots on goal, compared to four for the Maroons. Salisbury senior midfielder Brenna Stuhler and sophomore forward Sarah Pfundstein led the offensive charge with three shots each.

SU sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Orgera posted three saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Sea Gulls will continue play on the road this Wednesday, as they are set to square off with Virginia Wesleyan College at 7 p.m.
