Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University
women's soccer team fell to Roanoke College, 1-0, in the final
contest of the 2010 Shellenberger Soccer Classic on Sunday
afternoon.
The Sea Gulls (2-4) fell victim to a first half goal by the
Maroons (2-2-1) in the 42nd minute and were unable to even things
up in the contest. The Maroons' tally came following a corner kick,
as they had a shot blocked by a SU defender that Roanoke's Katelyn
LaPore collected and put into the net for the game-winner.
Salisbury would not go down without a fight, as the Sea Gulls put
numerous shots on frame but were unable to break through. SU held a
13-8 advantage in shots, including five shots on goal, compared to
four for the Maroons. Salisbury senior midfielder Brenna
Stuhler and sophomore forward Sarah
Pfundstein led the offensive charge with three shots
each.
SU sophomore goalkeeper Melissa
Orgera posted three saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Sea Gulls will continue play on the road this Wednesday, as
they are set to square off with Virginia Wesleyan College at 7
p.m.
