Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Salisbury
University volleyball team got its season off to a convincing start
as it rolled past both Washington (Md.) College and Messiah College
with a pair of three-game victories at the Battlefield Classic,
hosted by Gettysburg College, on Friday afternoon. The Sea Gulls
are one of 13 schools participating in the tournament.
Salisbury (2-0) first flexed its offensive muscle against
Washington, coming away with a sound 25-15, 25-5, 25-14 victory.
The Sea Gulls worked the court effectively as a unit, but it was
sophomore Carley
Todd who stole the show. Her 13-assist, 11-ace
and seven-kill day earned her career-highs in both kills and
service aces; she was just three kills short of the
elusive triple-double. Todd's 11 aces put her in a tie for
third place in the Sea Gull record books for aces in a match.
Another sophomore standout, Jenna Shay,
notched eight kills, and classmate Amanda
Poskaitis went 3-for-3 in kills in the match against
the Shorewomen to earn the Gulls a "W" in their season opener.
It was sophomore Chelsea
Glowacki who came up big for the Sea Gulls in the
second match, against Messiah College. The middle hitter
contributed 10 kills to Salisbury's cause in 18 attempts.
Additionally, she put up three assist blocks. Todd added to her
impressive totals with six kills, 15 assists and six blocks.
Freshman Erin
Lange led the team in digs, putting up 13 in her
second match as a Sea Gull. Salisbury defeated Messiah with
game scores of 25-16, 26-24 and 25-22.
The maroon and gold will look to continue their hot streak in
the tournament, which runs through tomorrow. Salisbury will face
Widener College at noon before squaring off against host school
Gettysburg at 2 p.m.
