Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team took the floor at Maggs Physical Activities Center on Saturday afternoon for its last regular-season home contest, against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State University, suffering a tough 75-68 loss despite a strong second-half push.
Senior center Chris McGrew opened up the game with a lay-in to put Salisbury (10-13, 5-9 CAC) up by two; shortly thereafter, Frostburg (10-13, 5-9 CAC) went on a 7-0 run to take the lead. Unfazed, the Sea Gulls battled back and eventually knotted things up at 19 apiece with 7:04 remaining in the half, but the Bobcat offense slowly began to pull away and took an eight-point advantage into the locker room.
A huge three-pointer off the fingertips of junior forward Mike Maczko less than a minute into the second half brought Salisbury to within five. A strong Frostburg offense once again stretched the Bobcat advantage – Frostburg's largest lead of the half was 13 points – but the Sea Gulls fought back once again, cutting the lead back to just five points with 28 seconds left in the game.
The situation forced the Sea Gulls to foul, sending the Bobcats to the line three times in just 19 seconds; Frostburg went 6-for-6, sealing the victory.
Maczko netted 18 points and scooped up eight rebounds in the effort. McGrew registered 15 points and nine rebounds.
Five Sea Gull seniors were honored before the contest as part of the squad's annual "Senior Day": McGrew, Eric Johnson, Chris Edwards, Alex Politsch and David Pearman were all recognized before stepping on their home court for the last time in the regular season.
The Sea Gulls now hit the road for two straight CAC contests to wrap up their regular season, beginning with a trip to Hood College on Feb. 16. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
