Salisbury rolls past Bridgewater, 9-0, in season opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team earned a resounding 9-0 victory in its season-opening match against Bridgewater (Va.) College on Saturday evening.

The Sea Gull men (1-0) dominated singles play, with four of their six victories coming in straight sets. Senior Andrew Nottage earned the win in the No. 1 singles spot; senior David Lupinetti and junior Daniel Barnas won their matches in the 2 and 3 spots, respectively. No. 4 singles player Giorgio Athans, a senior, easily won his match, and the story was the same for sophomore Henry Stuhler (No. 5) and junior Justin Smith (No. 6).

Salisbury also earned impressive wins in each of its three doubles matches, with the No. 1 (Barnas, Nottage) and No. 3 (Athans, Curtis Quandt) duos each earning 8-2 wins and the No. 2 (Lupinetti, Stuhler) team taking an 8-3 victory.

Salisbury remains on the road for its next match, against Washington & Lee University tomorrow (Feb. 27), before playing for the first time at home on March 4 at 6:30 p.m. That match, against Vassar College, will mark the first meeting between the teams in program history.
