Bollhorst hands out five assists as Gulls roll past Rowan, 15-3

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team made quick work of Rowan University on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 15-3 win at Sea Gull Stadium.

Salisbury (8-0) scored four times in the first 2:26 of the game and never looked back. Sophomore Katie Bollhorst set up the first two goals, feeding juniors Carrie Bray and Allie Wheatley for tallies that came just 53 seconds into the contest.

It was the start of a big day for Bollhorst, who put up a career-best five assists, all in the first half. It took less than 18 minutes for Bollhorst to pass her previous career high of three helpers.

Wheatley added another goal 30 seconds after her first and senior Aileen McCausland pushed the lead to 4-0 with a score as 27:34 remained in the first half.

Salisbury kept the pressure on in its offensive end of the field, as the Profs (1-3) registered just six shots in the first half. Salisbury scored 11 times to take an 11-0 lead at the break. Bray, Wheatley, McCausland and sophomore Lauren Feusahrens each scored two goals in the first half for the Gulls.

Freshman Shelby Nemecek got into the act in the second half, scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career as Salisbury pushed the lead to as much as 14-1.

Bollhorst had the game-high five points while six Sea Gulls finished with two points each.

Senior Julie Ann Caulfield picked up the win for the Sea Gulls, registering two saves in the first half of play. Freshman Ashton Wheatley and sophomore Caity Coleman each saw time in the cage in the second half.

Leah Hershey scored twice to lead Rowan offensively, while Kerry Pehnke turned away eight Salisbury shots, playing nearly 40 minutes in goal for the Profs.

The Gulls will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they host No. 20 Stevenson University. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
