Sea Gulls fall to Roanoke, 3-0

Box Score

SALEM, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Roanoke College on the final day of the Roanoke Invitational Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons (3-1) got the scoring started in the 13th minute when Maggie Dent ripped a shot from 30 yards out off a free kick for the 1-0 lead. Roanoke doubled things up six minutes later as Stephanie Parenteau scored her own unassisted goal.

Roanoke capped the scoring in the 56th minute on Rebekah Adams' tally. The Maroons held a 10-2 edge in shots in the contest as Salisbury got attempts by senior Katie McMahon and junior Erin Mooney. Mooney's strike tested Roanoke keeper Carolyn Sarabacher, but it was the only save she would need for the shutout.

The Gulls (2-2-2) held a slight edge in corner kicks in the contest, trying five to just four for the Maroons.

Salisbury freshman Michelle Conrad recorded three saves in the net, playing just under 70 minutes while sophomore Lauren West played 20 minutes in goal, but did not face a shot on goal.

Salisbury will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when the Gulls host Virginia Wesleyan College at the SU Soccer Complex. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
