Albers claims No. 2 singles as men's tennis falls in final regular-season match

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team fell in its final regular-season match of the season, 8-1, at No. 16 Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays (14-4) collected the three doubles matches with Salisbury's top seeded pair of senior Daniel Barnas and freshman Daniel Albers playing the closest match, falling 8-4.

The No. 2 duo of senior Justin Smith and junior Adam Goldberger fell by an 8-2 score, matching the tally in the No. 3 match of senior Curtis Quandt and freshman Nick Mancuso.

Albers collected Salisbury's singles win with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 2, topping Hopkins' Warren Elgort.

Quandt won six games, falling at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2 while Goldberger lost in the next-closest match, at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1.

The Sea Gulls (9-11) will look to bounce back in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Salisbury, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will host No. 6 Stevenson University on Sunday, April 22 at 4 p.m. Sunday's winner will advance to the semifinals at St. Mary's (Md.) College on Tuesday.
