Sea Gulls net season-high goals in 5-0 win over Penn State-Harrisburg

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team put together a dominate scoring performance, beating Penn State-Harrisburg, 5-0, Tuesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex. The five goals is a season high for the Sea Gulls, who previously had set the benchmark at three goals against Ursinus College on September 6.

The Sea Gulls were led by classmates Tabitha Brown and this week's Capital Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Logan O'Meara, with each sophomore netting two goals in the contest.

Salisbury (6-4-1, 2-1 CAC) got on the board early, just 3:36 into the contest, when junior goalie Michelle Conrad drove a free kick from near the midfield stripe deep into the Penn State-Harrisburg (5-7, 0-3) zone. The ball settled near the top of the box and bounced off a Lion defender to the feet of freshman Jenny Gavigan, who settled the ball and placed it on the foot of Brown, who beat the Lion goalie for her first goal of the season and the early Sea Gull lead.

It took over 10 games for Brown to get her first tally of the season, but she would only have to wait just over 13 minutes to net her second. After two corner kicks by sophomore Samantha Beck that were immediately put back out of play by the Penn State-Harrisburg defense, the Walkersville, Md., native inserted a third attempt that went right to the foot of Brown, who blasted it home for the 2-0 lead, which would last until after the half.

Salisbury dominated the statsheet as well, outshooting the Lions 18-1 in the first half and 34-3 for the contest. The Sea Gulls held possession for much of the contest, maneuvering around the defense at will.

The Sea Gulls came out on the offensive to open the second half as well, with O'Meara netting her first goal of the contest 12:25 into the second half. Freshman Lindsey Andonian took a pass from sophomore Jenna DeLetto along the right boundary line of the Sea Gull zone and sent a pass towards the middle of the field to O'Meara. The Cranbury, N.J., native settled the ball at the top of the zone and put the ball in the back of the net to push to score to 3-0.

The duo of O'Meara and Andonian would soon strike again when Andonian attempted a shot that Penn State-Harrisburg goalie Mackenzie Gates made a diving stop on, only to have the ball rebound directly to O'Meara, who deposited the ball in the back of the net for her second goal of the contest.

Salisbury capped its scoring on the afternoon at the 76:25 mark when freshman Megen Jackson took a pass from classmate Erin McQuate and netted her third goal of the season, tying her with Andonian for second most on the team.

With her two-goal performance, O'Meara now leads the team with four goals on the season.

Conrad played the first half and was never seriously challenged, making one save. Coming out of the break, Head Coach Kwame Lloyd inserted freshman Alesha Seifert and later in the second half sophomore Nya Dobbs. Dobbs stopped two Lion shots to preserve the combined shutout for Salisbury.

The Sea Gulls are next in action this Saturday, Oct. 12, traveling to Buena Vista, Va., to take on Southern Virginia University. That contest is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
