Sea Gulls fall, 6-3, at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Salisbury University men's tennis team fell Saturday, 6-3, at Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Sea Gulls picked up one doubles win, coming at No. 2, as junior Demetri Vrahnos and senior Adam Goldberger defeated Spenser Bullock and Tyler Searcy, 8-4.

Virginia Wesleyan's Graham Wilson and Drew Tomajczyk toppled sophomore Daniel Albers and freshman Eric Spangler 8-3, at No. 1, while Lawrence Hunter and Tyler Chang overcame the challenge from sophomore Nick Mancuso and freshman Aaron Heffley 8-4, at No. 3.

The Sea Gulls (1-4) earned their two singles victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions as Mancuso dispatched Hunter 6-4, 6-2, and Heffley rolled to victory over Holden Branham by the same score.

Spangler could not build off the momentum of a first-set victory and was denied by Tomajczyk in a hard-fought three-set affair 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.

At No. 1, Albers fell in straight sets to Wilson 6-2, 6-2, while Vrahnos fell at No. 3 to Bullock 6-4, 6-4, taking his first defeat of the season, and Goldberger dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to Chang at No. 4.

Salisbury will look to rebound tomorrow, March 10 when they will take on Drew University at Virginia Wesleyan; the match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
