FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University's men's tennis team fell to the University of Mary Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference championship match, 8-1, Saturday afternoon.

At No. 3 doubles, the Eagles (14-10) toppled Salisbury's pair of junior Shane Gunther and sophomore Nick Mancuso for the first point of the day for UMW.

At No. 2, senior Adam Goldberger and junior Demetri Vrahnos fell behind 3-0 but earned a break to cut the score to 3-2 against Alex Blakhin and Sam Wichlin before the Eagles extended the lead to 5-2, ultimately collecting an 8-3 victory.

The Sea Gulls duo of sophomore Daniel Albers and freshman Eric Spangler held a lead at No. 1 over Tyler Carey and Kaleb Nguyen, 4-3, before the Eagles earned a break to take a 7-6 advantage. The Eagles then held on for a 9-7 win and their third point.

Salisbury got on the board at No. 2 singles via retirement as Blakhin retired after being up on Spangler 5-2. At Nos. 5 and 6, neither Gunther nor Mancuso could gain momentum with each falling 6-0, 6-0.

Goldberger fell 6-3, 6-3 after holding early leads in both sets at No. 4 and Vrahnos dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Evan Charles at No. 3.

At No. 1, Albers battled Carey, ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South region, in two hard-fought sets, dropping each 7-5 and wrapping up an 8-1 win for UMW.

The Sea Gulls finish the 2013 campaign with a 14-10 record.
