Men's tennis battles to 5-4 win against Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 win on Friday night, defeating Franklin & Marshall College.

The Sea Gulls were able to pull away for two double match wins. Senior Daniel Albers and junior Eric Spangler grabbed an 8-6 win at No. 1, while senior Adam Goldberger and freshman Sean Ngo pull off a 9-8 win at No. 3, claiming the tiebreaker 7-3.

Salisbury's only double defeat came at No. 2, where senior Demetri Vrahnos and junior Shanon Gunther fell, 8-4.

Salisbury needed three singles wins to finish off the match, getting the first two at No. 2, from Spangler, and No. 3, from Vrahnos. The two remained perfect in their spot in the lineup this season, with Spangler winning 6-0, 7-5 and Vrahnos prevailing 6-2, 6-4.

Goldberger collected the final win of the day, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to help Salisbury stay unbeaten this season.

The Sea Gulls' three singles losses the match went three sets, as Albers fell at No. 1, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), Gunther dropped a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) decision at No. 4, and Ngo was beaten at No. 5, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

Salisbury (4-0) will be back in action on Sunday, March 7, traveling to Haverford College, for an 11 a.m., match.
