Men's tennis sweeps St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team earned a 9-0 win on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's College of Maryland in a late-season Capital Athletic Conference contest.

The Sea Gulls (13-4, 5-1 CAC) opened with three wins in doubles competition, led by senior Daniel Albers and junior Eric Spangler at No. 1, picking up an 8-1 win. Seniors Demetri Vrahnos and Adam Goldberger played at No. 2, while junior Shanon Gunther and freshman Sean Ngo teamed up at No. 3. Both pairs earned 8-3 wins for the Sea Gulls.

Salisbury rolled through the singles matches with six straight-set wins. Junior Grant Hudson, playing at No. 6 singles, surrendered just one game collecting a 6-1, 6-0 win. Gunther and Ngo, playing at No. 3 and 4, respectively, losing only three games apiece. Gunther was good for a 6-3, 6-0 win and Ngo was victorious by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

After working for a 6-4 win in the opening set at No. 5, Goldberger was able to take the second set, 6-1. Vrahnos won by a similar score at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-4, and Spangler collected his first set at No. 1, by a 7-5 score, before winning 6-1 to finish off the match.

The Sea Gulls return home on Sunday, April 12, hosting Division I University of Maryland Eastern Shore beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the SU Tennis Courts, before taking on Elizabethtown College at 2 p.m. Prior to the Elizabethtown match, the Sea Gulls will honor their seniors and Salisbury's former student-athletes selected for the CAC's Silver Anniversary Team.
