SALISBURY, Md.- The Salisbury University men's tennis team won its third-straight match to begin the 2016 season topping Goucher College, 8-1, at the SU Indoor Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls took the first point in doubles with seniors Eric Spangler and Shanon Gunther claiming an 8-2 victory. After losing the first game, Gunther had some key serving points as the Salisbury pair came back and only gave up one other game in the end at the No. 1 spot.

Junior Grant Hudson and sophomore Kelson Weber, playing at No. 2, claimed the second point of the day for the Sea Gulls with an 8-3 win.

On the third court, the last doubles match of the day saw junior Michael Popielski and freshman Andrew Rainger in a close match. After the SU pair was up 4-1, Goucher's Britt Shortle and Elliot Diehl came back and cut the lead to 7-5. After a long match, the Sea Gulls took the 8-5 victory and all three points in doubles.

In singles play, Gunther claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.

Second off the court was Hudson, with a 6-2, 6-4 win and securing the victory with the fifth point of the day.

Moments later, Spangler at the No. 1 spot, finished off a 7-5, 6-3 win. The senior had a tough opening set with Goucher's Joey Caracappa, with neither breaking serve until the 6-5 mark, and then Spangler took the opening set.

In the next three singles matches on the day, Weber at No. 4 had an exciting first set, winning 7-5, and closing his match out at 6-2 in the second set. Popielski at No. 6, took a 6-1, 6-3 win and Raigner, last on the court, had a tough match ultimately falling 6-1, 6-3.

The Sea Gulls will be back outside tomorrow, February 28, hosting Johns Hopkins University at 1 p.m at the SU Tennis Courts.
