Men's tennis stays perfect in 2017 with shutout win against Catholic

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team remained perfect on the 2017 season earning a 9-0 win against Catholic University of America on Friday afternoon at the SU Tennis Courts.

The Sea Gulls (4-0) picked up the three doubles victories with a pair of 8-3 wins following an 8-0 victory at No. 2 from senior Grant Hudson and freshman Patrick MacLean.

Freshmen Ian Siew and Colt Williamson took one of the 8-3 wins, at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Andrew Rainger and freshman Garrett Malave had the other at No. 3.

In the singles matches, none of the Cardinals (2-4) were able to win more than four games as Salisbury rolled to the win.

Rainger's No. 5 match finished first, with a quick 6-0, 6-0 triumph, and a trio of contests closed just moments apart with MacLean winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Malave winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 while freshman Franklin Tiafoe won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

Hudson outlasted Rob Alexander at No. 2 singles, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, and the matches closed out at No. 1 where Williamson earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

The Sea Gulls return to action on a busy weekend on Saturday, February 25 taking on Virginia Wesleyan College and Goucher College. The match against the Marlins is slated to begin at noon.
