Salisbury runs well at Captains' Classic

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Christopher Newport University over the weekend to compete in the Captains' Classic.

Women

Victoria Isidron got things started for the maroon and gold in the field events with a third-place finish in the javelin throw. Isidron posted a toss of 71' 11" beating out the fourth-place finisher by over 23 feet.

Kyleigh Dumas earned a third-place finish in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 10' 6".

A trio of Sea Gulls finished just behind their teammate as Tess Johnson, Amanda Ellen, and Kathleen Kammerer placed fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Johnson, Ellen, and Kammerer all cleared the bar at a height of 10' 0".

Donaye Miles captured a seventh-place finish in the shot put after recording a throw of 34' 1.25". Teammate Dalina Julien finished one place behind her teammate in eighth after a throw of 32' 5.50".

Julien continued her success in the discus throw posting a throw of 119' 2" to place seventh. 

In the track events Shea McCloskey captured a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run. McCloskey completed the race in a time of 2:18.93.

Men

Andrew Robey got the men's side off and running in the track events earning a third-place finish in the 5,000-mete run. Robey came home in a time of 16:21.32 to earn the top three finish.

Jack McCloskey captured a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash coming home in a time of 11.23 seconds.

Zach Schmelz earned the first Salisbury victory of the meet earning a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Schmelz crossed the finish line in a time of 48.46 seconds to earn the win.

Eric Halton finished less than a second behind his teammate placing third as he came home in a time of 49.29 seconds.

Branson Oduor turned in a solid performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase placing third after crossing the finish line in a time of 9:59.04.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Schmelz, Halton, Emmanuel Porquin, and Tyler Hardman captured a second-place finish after completing the race in a time of 3:20.99.

The other 4x400-meter relay team of Will Fountain, Mickey Van Gieson, Parker Harrington, and Trey White placed eighth crossing the finish line in a time of 3:35.07.

In the field events, Andrew Volz got the Sea Gulls off to a great start with a third-place finish in the hammer throw. Volz recorded a throw of 157' 4" to earn the top three finish. Teammate Graham Hensley finished just behind Volz placing fifth overall after a throw of 138' 11".

Fountain continued his success in the pole vault earning a third-place finish after clearing the bar at a height of 14' 5.25". River Souder finished three places behind his teammate placing seventh after clearing the bar at a height of 12' 11.5".

Volz continued to impress placing fifth in the shot put after a toss of 45' 10.5". Hensley placed just one spot behind his teammate after recording a throw of 45' 1.5" to place sixth. Duncan Ferrin rounded out the trio with an eighth-place finish after recording a toss of 43' 8".

Volz continued his success in the discus recording a throw of 137' 4" to place sixth. Ferrin finished one spot behind his teammate placing seventh after a toss of 136' 6".

Salisbury returns to action on April 21-22 when it will compete in the Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
