Men's tennis improves to 5-0 with shutout win over Bridgewater

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team closed out a 3-0 weekend with a 9-0 win against visiting Bridgewater (Va.) College on Sunday afternoon in the team's first full match played outdoors, at the SU Tennis Courts.

The Sea Gulls (5-0) rolled through the three doubles matches, getting an 8-5 win at No. 1 from the sophomores Colt Williamson and Patrick MacLean with classmates Ian Siew and Matthew Ryan winning 8-2 at No. 2

The No. 3 match ended in an 8-1 victory for the maroon and gold pair of junior Andrew Rainger and sophomore Garrett Malave.

In singles play, Salisbury won five matches in straight sets, with Williamson, MacLean, Ryan, and freshman Stefan Hein giving up just four games in their victories. Williamson was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 1 while Hein at No. 3 and MacLean at No. 4 won by the same score, and Ryan came out on top 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Junior Kelson Weber earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5, with Siew picking up the final point for Salisbury, winning 6-0, 4-6, 10-2 at No. 2.

The Sea Gulls hit the road for the first time in 2018 next Saturday, March 3 when they travel to Johns Hopkins University. That match will begin at 11 a.m.
