Sea Gulls earn two CAC wins in Pennsylvania

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team picked up a pair of Capital Athletic Conference wins on Friday, topping York College of Pennsylvania and Penn State University-Harrisburg.

Salisbury 8, York 1

In the first match of the day, the Sea Gulls picked up the three doubles points with two coming quickly as sophomore Patrick MacLean and Matthew Ryan won 8-3 at No. 1 and senior Brandon Danganan and freshman Stefan Hein won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-2 score.

At No. 3, senior Connor Truitt and sophomore James Kwedi needed a tie-breaker to earn a 9-8 (10-8) win for the 3-0 lead.

Salisbury's five singles points came in straight sets with Ryan earning the most lopsided, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Kwedi picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 while MacLean at No. 2 and Danganan at No. 4 each won 6-1, 6-3.

Hein was good for a 7-5, 6-3 win, with Ryan dropping a three-set battle at No. 5, falling 2-6, 7-6 (12-10), 10-7.

Salisbury 9, Penn St.-Harrisburg 0

In the second match of the day, Salisbury (11-4, 4-1 CAC) rolled through all three doubles matches, surrendering just three total games with MacLean and Ryan winning 8-0 at No. 1, Truitt and Kwedi earning an 8-1 win at No. 3 while Hein and Danganan won 8-2 at No. 2.

In singles play, Hein won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 with MacLean claiming a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Ryan and Danganan at No. 3 and 4, respectively, each won 6-1, 6-3 contests.

Kwedi picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win while Truitt again went three sets, earning the 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 11-9 victory.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, April 14 at No. 37 Christopher Newport University for a match beginning at 1 p.m.
